The Statistics Competition is a competition organized by the Statistical Service of Cyprus, the Ministry of Education, Sport and Youth, the University of Cyprus and the Cyprus Statistical Society, with the aim to promote statistical literacy, curiosity and interest in official statistics among students and teachers. It is part of the European Statistics Competition organized by volunteering NSIs and Eurostat.
The main objectives of the competition are to promote curiosity and interest in statistics among students, to encourage teachers to use new materials for teaching statistics by promoting the use of real data provided by official statistics and search for applications of acquired statistical knowledge. Moreover, it aims to show the role of statistics to students and teachers in various aspects of society and to promote teamwork and collaboration among students to achieve common goals.
The competition is structured in two phases: a national competition organized by the national authorities and the European final organized by Eurostat. The first two teams of each category of the national competitions, are eligible to take part in the European final. The languages of the national competition will be Greek and English, while the European final will be in English.
The national competition will take place during the period of October 2022 – March 2023 and the European final between April and May of 2023.

The Statistics Competition is open to all secondary-age students of officially recognized educational institutions of Cyprus. Participation will take place in two categories:
*Students attending the seventh grade of an educational institution are allowed to participate in the Upper Secondary Category provided that they comply with the age restriction.
Participation is free of charge and there can be a maximum of 4 teams from the same institution. In cases of sixth-grade or seventh-grade schools, up to 6 (six) teams can participate, with a maximum of 3 (three) teams per category.
Students will work in teams of 2 to 3, all of them from the same school and category. All teams must have a teacher from their school acting as a tutor, who will supervise their work and generally perform a coordinating role and communicate with the organizers. There is no limitation on the number of teams supervised by the same tutor.

The winning teams of the national competition, one from Category A and one from Category B will receive the following prizes:

In addition, the jury may grant an honorary mention to any team.
In case of having two winning teams with the same tutor, the tutor will only receive one prize.
European phase:
Each member and the tutor of the two winning teams of the European final (categories A and B) will receive the following prizes:
There will also be trophies for the second and third team.
All the teams that will participate in the European phase will receive a diploma.
